Crodaderm S and Crodaderm B

The Crodaderm products stand in a separate category from other esters that Croda sells.  They are sucrose-derived esters that have the traditional properties of other emollients but also have other outstanding properties: 

FACE & BODY CARE

• Increases actives deposition
• Restores skin barrier function
• Smoothes, softens skin
• Moisturizes and increase skin elasticity
• Reinforces skin’s lipid bi-layer – complement skin’s natural fatty acids
• Highly substantive to skin

SUN CARE

• Provides film forming properties
• Crodaderm S has very slow skin spreading which helps resists wash/wear-off of sunscreens
• Crodaderm B has excellent gelling capabilities of emollients and esters for viscosity modification of high oil phases

COLOR COSMETICS

• Crodaderm S has very slow skin spreading – for long wearing color cosmetics
• Crodaderm B has excellent gelling capabilities of emollients and esters for viscosity modification of high oil phases

SKIN MOISTURIZATION
To determine skin moisturization, an in vitro test was performed to evaluate the Crodaderms’ capacity to hold and retain water.  Studies conducted using a Dynamic Vapor Sorption (DVS) analyzer, an emulsion formulation containing 2% of a Crodaderm B and S blend demonstrated up to 4 times the moisturizing efficacy as two top commercialized skin care products in the market.

SKIN SUPPLENESS
A panel study was conducted using a Gas Bearing Electrodynamometer (GBE) to measure any changes in skin suppleness.  The results of that study compare a simple oil-in-water emulsion containing a 2% blend of Crodaderm B and Crodaderm S at a 1:2.5 ratio against a leading commercial cleansing wipe-off milk.  The ratio appears to optimize the beneficial effect of the Crodaderms in such formulations. 

It is believed that the small amount of surfactant in the commercial product may have had a stripping effect on the skin and therefore be partially responsible for a loss of suppleness as measured below.
