Incroquat
Behenyl
18-MEA*
Hungry Hair?…Sounds preposterous, doesn't it? But hair can
really be hungry when it lacks essential nutrients like
18-Methyl Eicosanoic Acid (18-MEA), the primary lipid found at
the hair surface.
When hair is damaged by chemical treatments, weathered from
the sun, or stressed out from over-styling, its content of
18-MEA is often lost and hair becomes starved of this
important lipid. Now, thanks to Croda's innovative and
patented quat technology, you can replenish the lipids lost at
the hair surface.
Incroquat Behenyl 18 MEA
is a fatty quat based on 18-MEA and was developed to replenish
under-nourished hair and help make it healthy again. With
Incroquat Behenyl 18 MEA, damaged hair need never go
hungry again.
* Patent pending
Incroquat Behenyl 18 MEA is a 40%
active fatty quaternized derivative of 18-Methyl Eicosanoic
Acid (18-MEA), the primary lipid found at the hair surface.
Human hair contains a thin, protective layer of lipids
covalently bound to the cuticle and comprised primarily of
18-MEA. Chemical treatment or environmental stresses can
remove part or all of this fatty layer, making hair
unmanageable, less healthy-looking, and more susceptible to
further damage.
Incroquat Behenyl 18 MEA was developed
as a means of replenishing this important lipid and is
recommended in products for aging, weathered, permed or
color-treated hair.
Benefits
-
Replenishes
lipid surface of hair
-
Makes hair more hydrophobic
-
Improves wet and dry combing
-
Restores integrity of hair surface
-
Makes hair less susceptible to environmental stress
-
Adds lubricity and shine
-
Approved for use in Europe
Performance tests indicate that
Incroquat Behenyl 18 MEA
makes hair healthier and less susceptible to further damage by
making it more hydrophobic, and improving its wet and dry
combing. An added bonus is more lubricity and shine.

Treatment with
Incroquat Behenyl 18 MEA
dramatically reduces the peak load and total work
of combing in bleached hair. The ability of
Incroquat Behenyl 18 MEA
to do so restores the
hair's natural lubricity and makes it easier to comb
Dynamic
Advancing Contact Angle

Dynamic advancing
contact angle measurements indicate how hydrophobic the hair
is. The 'no treatment' contact angle of 68.5°
means the hair surface is very hydrophilic and damaged from
bleaching. The surface hydrophobicity of the bleached hair
fiber is much improved after a single treatment with
Incroquat Behenyl 18 MEA, as seen by the increase in
contact angle to 83.5°.
