Keravis

KERAVIS (INCI Name: Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein PG-Propyl Silanetriol) is a new hair-strengthening complex that can dramatically improve the strength of damaged hair. As a copolymer of hydrolyzed vegetable protein and silicone, the product contains low molecular weight components that penetrate the cortex and moisturize from within and high molecular weight components that form a film on the hair shaft and lubricate and reinforce the cuticle.

The ability of KERAVIS to strengthen the hair has been demonstrated using flexabrasion, a technique that allows for evaluation of the entire aspect of hair strength fiber extension, fiber flexure, and cuticle abrasion. (See the article “Flexabrasion – A Method for Evaluating Hair Strength” under Literature on the Product Database page.)

In flexabrasion studies, treatment with KERAVIS led to an increase in hair strength, in that hair fibers treated with KERAVIS were shown to have a higher fatigue lifetime, meaning that the hair was more resistant to breakage. This translates into increased hair strength. As shown in the graph here, 1% KERAVIS increased the strength of bleached hair by 180% as delivered from a conditioner; the conditioner alone increased hair strength by only 60%. This means that the addition of KERAVIS can provide a conditioner with three times the strengthening performance.
